SWELLENDAM ATTRACTIONS AND PLACES OF INTEREST
Swellendam Backpackers is situated in heart of the Overberg, in a peaceful and safe early 18th cenury town. Nestled below the Langeberg Mountains, this beautiful region has much to offer backpacking visitors. The region has a predominantly Mediterranean climate with a sun filled Summer (Avg Temperature 25°C) and Winter brings the possibility of snow on the Langeberg Mountain top (Avg Temperature 15°C)
Swellendam and the neighbouring Barrydale (48km), Buffeljachts (8km), Malagas (40km), Stormsvlei (38km), Suurbraak (25km) feature a large amount of Attractions and Adventure Activities:
• Barrydale Wine and Brandy Cellars - Wine Tastings and Tours including the famous Joseph Barry Potstil Brandy
• Bontebok National Park - Bontebok Antelope, other small buck species and 126 different bird species.
• Buffelsjagsdam Sundowner Cruise - Buffelsjagsdam offers slide rides, canoeing, waterskiing and barge cruises.
• Whale Watching At Cape Infanta - At the mouth of the Breede River is the Whale nursery of the Cape.
• Drostdy Museum Complex - Swellendam of 18th and 19th century is housed in several historic buildings.
• Hermitage Youngberry Farms - Swellendam is the largest Youngberry region in South Africa. Liqueur tasting at Distillery.
• Malgas Ferry - The hand-drawn pontoon over the Breede River is the last remaining pont in South Africa.
